Key Technologies and Solutions
Unmanned Remote Sites
SSR’s systems are operating unmanned in some of the harshest environments on the planet. These systems are managed from SSRCoastalcommand centers hundreds of miles away, often over low-bandwidth network links. Since access to these sites is difficult, SSR’s rugged design allows these systems to run uninterrupted for years at a time. Automated radar processing and tracking allow these systems to continue detecting and tracking targets without frequent operator interaction. Whether the network bandwidth is 1 Gbps or 56 kbps, SSR’s unique network communication techniques will allow pertinent data to get back to the command center.
Many large, geographically-distributed systems are required to have redundancy built into the local centers. SSR’s Tracker Redundancy allows local Composite Trackers to automatically and seamlessly begin tracking during communication failures. This transition is accomplished without the loss of the primary track picture and the track picture is combined from the local trackers when communication is restored, providing a seamless transition.
Overlapping Radar Coverage
In many installations, two or more radars often will cover overlapping regions. Although benefits exist in these regions, they also pose many challenges to coastal surveillance systems. SSR’s design ensures optimal radar detection and tracking in these areas as it allows for seamless track hand-off as vessels transition from one coverage region to another. In addition, SSR’s Composite Radar Image feature allows an operator to view multiple radar images at once and choose independent colors for each radar’s returns, making it easier to identify zones with effective radar coverage.
Encrypted AIS / Blue Force Tracking
SSR’s Encrypted AIS Module allows land-based operators to quickly identify and locate friendly vessels in their area of operation and operations centers can securely send and receive text messages with their friendly assets. In addition, designated Targets of Interest can be shared during joint operations. The Encrypted AIS Module is provided in both an exportable and US FIPS version.
Interagency Information Sharing
Interagency operations have continued to evolve and SSR is there to support them. SSR can provide other agencies full control or view-only privileges of the an implemented SSR system. In addition, track information can be shared with other agencies through a variety of common protocols or through SSR’s COMRIC API.
